The Alumni Oxoniensis has the following to say about James:

He matriculated at Hart Hall, Oxford, 6 May 1625, as the second son of James of Munster, Ireland, Gent.; became a student of the Middle Temple in 1629, at which time his father was described as "of Waterford" (Foster). According to the inq. p. m. of his uncle, Sir John Ryves, in 1625, the latter made a deed on 2 Jan. 1625, "whereby for the love which he bore to James Ryves, son of James Ryves, brother of the said Sir John Ryves, he, (Sir John) agreed that he (James Ryves) and his heirs should be seised of the farm of Hide." Hutchins shows him as deceased without issue.
