TRP hits another bump in the road and bounces back
It never rains but it pours. And for once I'm not talking about the British weather; the second half of May has actually been very pleasant over here in south east England.Following hot on the heels of the issue reported on last month in the Latest News for 8 May 2012, we then suffered from the failure of the hardware running TRP (and no doubt many other web sites) on 16 May. With hind-sight, we suspect it had been slowly degrading for the previous three or four days.
Barry's hosting provider moved TRP fairly quickly to a new server, but in doing so managed to use a back-up which was seven days old. They also put us on a server which didn't have all the underlying software we use enabled for us. Not knowing about the missing software, it looked to us as if we'd suddenly found at least three additional major problems with the Tiki software, but a little dogged determination flushed out the issues and the hosting provider fixed the software environment for us on the morning of 21May. All of this was reflected in a change to the Latest News page within the wiki made on 17 May and the subsequent four updates to that web page. You are encouraged to check the Latest News page whenever you log-on to TRP and check back occasionally if we're experiencing issues.
The two pieces of good news to come out of this second incident are that (1) we were able to re-create all of the wiki pages created or changed between 7 May and 16 May and (2) TRP has been running without further issues since 21 May.
In fact TRP has been so stable that I've been able to use the Mass Search & Replace tool that is new with TW v6.x to correct all of the spurious characters introduced to wiki pages by our migration from v4.3 to v6.7. In excess of 420 pages, some with multiple issues, have been successfully corrected and that migration issue is now resolved.
