TRP Service Suspended
As announced on our companion Google Site https://sites.google.com/site/thereevesproject123/ we reluctantly took the decision to temporarily suspend The Reeves Project wiki with effect from 13 December 2017. For completeness those announcements are being included in these retrospective TRP Latest News Pages.Initial Announcement - 14 Dec 2017
Reluctantly, we have taken the decision to temporarily suspend The Reeves Project wiki with effect from 18h45GMT on 13 December 2017. We will advise via this page our progress to restore the service, but its likely to take us a few weeks, not days.Posted by Admin Martin on Thursday 14 December 2017 at 16h30GMT/11h30EST
Two weeks ago (28 November) we had what we first thought was a simple technical issue. But further investigation revealed that Barry's administrative access to the server hosting TRP had been hijacked. Having regained control, Barry removed a couple of static web pages which the intruders had added to the web server (not to the wiki). As far as we can tell the wiki and its contents were not compromised.
Then on Saturday 9 December, the layout of our web pages suddenly changed. The site had been hijacked for a second time and again Barry had been locked out. The intruders had again added a couple of static web pages, which would not be seen by the TRP user community. After a little searching Jonathan found a web page detailing how to hijack any TikiWiki (TW) based service running on or below a specific version of the TW software. Sadly our wiki was running on an affected version.
The server hosting TRP has given us very good service over a very long period of time, but now really needs a major refresh. Since we have no way to prevent repeated hijacking events which may have more serious impact to our wiki content and/or visitors to our web pages, we have reluctantly decided the only safe option is to temporarily suspend The Reeves Project wiki.
Over the coming days and weeks, we will look to move TRP to a more secure server and upgrade the whole of the supporting infrastructure, including the TikiWiki software. Right now we don't know how long this activity might take, particularly as the Christmas holiday season is rapidly approaching and everybody's free time is in short supply.
Wiki Stats - End December 2017
As noted above, whilst TRP was taken off-line on 13th Dec, we were retrospectively able to extract the customary monthly statistics. The total number of pages in the Wiki (as at 1 January 2018) was 7176 (previously 7171, 7130, 7046) an increase of 5 pages during the month. Of the total, 1442 pages (was 1438, 1411, 1350) begin with a number and are most probably a date related gleaning. We currently have 2942 wiki pages categorised as "People", of which 2518 begin with the letter "R".

TRP Users
We ended December 2017 with 303 user accounts registered in TRP, with no new users added before 13 December.Reeves DNA Project Update
In October we welcomed three new members to the project, Phillip Reavis, Cynthia Holt and John Zinser. November was much busier, with nine expressions of interest and eight of those individuals completing their request for membership; Bobby Green, J Green, Sharon Greene, Olen Davisons, Karyn Davies, Brian Haley, Pamela Ready and Sylvia Dinkel. December was much quieter with just Bradley Reaves Jr joining and one member leaving our group. As DNA Group Admins/Co-Admins we see a huge number of e-mails every week notifying us of new matches within the Reeves DNA Project. In this quarterly summary we aim to high-light the initial Y-DNA matches of our new group members. If we've mistakenly over-looked your results, please do let us know.
Olen Davison and Bobby Ray Green have both been matched with our DNA Group 04.
Whilst Bradley Reaves Jr joined the project during 4q2017, but his results didn't become available until 2018. However, since this summary is being written retrospectively, we can report that his Y-DNA result has strong matches with DNA Group 03
The Y-DNA results for Brian Haley were also added to the ungrouped pool during the quarter. Brian matches 65/67 an individual with the surname Reeves, but that individual is currently not a member of our project.
You may recall we also had a similar situation last quarter where a new Reeves DNA Project group member matched a non group member. Regardless of your Y-DNA results, if the surname by which you are known is Reeves or one of its variants, please do join our Y-DNA Project. We know some of you have Y-DNA results which suggest a stronger affinity with surnames other than R*v*(s) but we'd encourage you to join us in The Reeves DNA Project.
We'd also like you to come and join us at The Reeves Project, where you can share what you know about your R*v*(s) ancestors. It will often be that by exploring your family's FANs (friends, acquaintances and neighbours) that you'll find where the paths of your Reeves family and the family of your DNA affiliated surname crossed. Creating People Pages for your ancestors and adding what you've already discovered to the narrative there and adding gleaning pages for the documents they created and/or witnessed is a good way of doing this. Your contributions to TRP that show where and when the paths of those families crossed may also help break down brick walls of other researchers.
