History
Goochland County was founded in 1728 from Henrico County. At the time it included all land from Tuckahoe Creek, on both sides of the James River, west to the Blue Ridge Mountain, encompassing the present day counties of Powhatan, Fluvanna, Cumberland, Albermarle, Chesterfield, Buckingham, Appomattox, Amherst, and Nelson.
