York Co., VA
History
In 1619, the area now known as York County was included in two of the four early "citties" or incorporations, Elizabeth Cittie and James Cittie. In 1634, Charles River Shire was formed as one of the original eight shires of Virginia. The name was changed to York County in 1642/3 during the English Civil War.
