Transcript

This Indenture made this eighteenth day of December in the year of Our Lord Christ One thousand seven hundred and thirty four Between Robert Reives of the County of Surry Planter of the one part and William Jones of the County aforesaid Planter of the other part Witnesseth that the said Robert Reives for the considerations hereafter in these presents expressed and for the just and true performance of such matters as on the part and behalf of the said William Jones his executors administrators & assigns are made to be kept to the said Robert Reives hath given and granted and by these presents doth give and grant unto the said William Jones all and singular his goods chattles and personal effects whatsoever in whose hands custody or possession soever they be within the colony of Virginia or else where (excepting one negro girl called Judy and one feather bed and bolster which the said Robert Reives usually lieth in and all the furniture to the same belonging & appertaining which he hath by deed dated the day before the date of these presents given unto Robert Reives Jones son of the said William Jones as by the said Deed reference being thereunto had will more fully appear To have and to hold all and singular the said Goods Chattles & personal Estate aforesaid (except before excepted) unto the said William Jones his executors Administrators & assigns unto the only proper use and behoof of the said William Jones his executors Administrators & Assigns forever. And the said Robert Reives doth further authorize and appoint the said William Jones to ask & demand all such debts and sums of money or tobacco as are owing by any person or persons to the said Robert Reives and further to sue and implead any of the said persons or debtors in the name of the said Robert Reives as shall refuse or delay the payment of the said debts or sums of money or tobacco at the Will and Pleasure. And after that the said William Jones shall receive obtain get & recover the said Debts or sums then the said Robert Reives doth further give power & authority to the said William Jones to take and keep the same to his own use without making any account thereof to the said Robert Reives his executors or administrators And the said Robert Reives doth further promise to the said William Jones not to release or discharge any of the said Debts or sums of money or Tobacco as owing to him without the assent of the said William Jones first had & obtained. In consideration whereof the said William Jones for himself his executors and administrators doth covenant promise and agree to & with the said Robert Reives that the said William Jones his executors & administrators and every of them shall & will find and provide to the said Robert Reives during the Natural Life Convenient and sufficient meat drink washing lodging and apparel both linnen and woollen and all other Necessaries meet fit and convenient for him. And the said William Jones for himself his executors & administrators doth further covenant promise and agree to & with the said Robert Reives that the said William Jones his executors and administrators & every of them shall & will find and provide to the said Robert Reives during the said Natural life One sober horse to ride on with saddle & bridle at all times when the said Robert Reives shall think fit to require the same. In witness whereof the parties aforesaid to these presents interchangeably have put their hands and seals the day and year within mentioned.
