To all to whom these presents shall come I Ralph Mason of Bertie County in North Carolina send greeting in our Lord God everlasting now know ye that I Ralph Mason Jun’r for & in consideration of the sum of twenty pounds lawful money of Great Britain to me in hand paid before the ensealing or delivery of these presents by Philip Smith or secured by fee paid the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge & myself therewith fully satisfied & contented & of every part & parcel thereof do exonerate acquit & discharge the said Philip Smith & to his heirs I assign forever by these presents two tracts or parcel of land containing one hundred & ten acres of land be the same more or less situate lying in plumtree island in Edgecombe County on the So. Side of Morrattock River and is between the land of Buckley Kimbrough late of Joseph Colvin & of Amy Vernon Beginning at a at (sic) Robert Lang’s corner tree so running down John Grays line late Calverts now Buckley Kimbrough to the river at the mouth of a small gut to a red (unreadable) thence along the river to a gum & a red forked oak so up a line of marked trees to Robert Langs line to a hickory Thomas Whitmells corner tree & along his line to a post in the goose pond then along the pond to another post marked R M in the said pond standing in Langs dividing line and along (unreadable) said line to a hickory and Langs line it being the land the said Mason & his son Ralph formerly lived on & was purchased by him of William Reeves & Nathaniel Merit & by deed conveyed to the said Mason & for Reeves to Merrit & by record in the General Court will appear To have & to hold forever the said granted & bargained premises with all liver of the appurtenances privileges & commodities to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining Together will all houses orchards woodlands pasture grounds swamp meadows waters & water courses & all other (unreadable) & privileges therein & thereon Contained to him the said Philip Smith & to his heirs & assigns forever to his and their proper use & benefit forever I the said Ralph Mason for myself my heirs Exor’s or Admr’s do covenant promise & grant to & with the said Philip Smith his heirs & assigns that before the ensealing hereof I am the true owner of the above bargained premises and am lawfully seized & possessed of the same in mine own proper right & (unreadable) in fee simple and have in myself full owner & authority to grant bargain sell convey & confirm the said bargained premises in manner as aforesaid and the the said Philip Smith his heirs & assigns shall & may from time to time & st all times hereafter by force & virtue of these presents lawfully peaceably & quietly have hold use occupy possess & enjoy the sd demised & bargained premises with the appurtenances freely & clearly acquitted & discharged from all manner of former gifts grants bargains sales leases mortgages wills l or any other incumberances saving his Majesty’s quit rents only excepted. Furthermore I the said Ralph Mason for myself my heirs Etc do covenant & engage the above demised premises to him the said Philip Smith his heirs Etc against all the lawful claims & demands of any person or persons whatsoever hereafter & I will warrant & defend In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the year of our Lord Christ 1739 August 20th day
