Transcription

This Indenture made the twenty third day of September in the year of our Lord one Thousand Seven hundred and forty one, between William Reeves Junr and Hardy Reeves of the province of North Carolina and of Edgecomb County of the one part, Mary Merritt of the other part. Witnesseth that they the said William Reeves and Hardy Reeves the wife of the said William Reeves for and in consideration of the sum of Twelve pounds Sterling money of England to him in hand paid by the said Mary Merritt before the signing and insealing (sic) of these presents already paid, the receipt whereof they doth hereby confirm and acknowledge themselves therewith fully satisfied contented and paid and every part and parcel thereof the said William Reeves Junr, and Hardy Reeves their heirs, executors and assigns &c and every of them doth hereby fully clearly and absolutely acquit and discharge, hath bargained, sold, and doth by these presents bargain sell alien make over and confirm unto the said Mary Merritt her heirs, executors, and assigns &c one certain tract or parcel of land, containing Two hundred and twenty acres be the same more or less, situate lying and being in Edgecomb County in the aforesaid province Bounded as followeth to wit: beginning in the fork of Chockeyott Creek thence running up the south side of Great Chockeyott Creek to John Mustons upper corner on the said Creek, thence running (sic) along a line of markt trees to a corner nigh the Spring Meadow thence along a line of markt trees to little Chockeyott a little above the mouth of the wolf Trap branch thence down little Chockeyott Creek to the beginning or first station mentioned to have and peaceablel to enjoy the aforesaid two hundred and twenty acres of land with all houses, orchards, gardens,woods ways water, under woods and meadow grounds with all other and singular the improvements and appurtenances thereunto or in anywise appertaining to the said land, from the claim, right or title of them, the said William and Hardy Reeves their heirs executors and or assigns or any other person or persons whatsoever to the only proper use and behoof her the said Mary Merritt, her heirs executors and or assigns forever and they the said William Reeves, Junr and Hardy Reeves for themselves, their heirs, executors and or assigns do covenant promise and agree that they will from time to time and at all times forever hereafter against all persons whatsoever the right of the said land and premises warrant and defend to the said Merritt her heirs or assigns &c and that they the said William Reeves Jr and Hardy Reeves shall and will be ready at any time hereafter to make any further Right, conveyance or title, that she the said Mary Merritt her heirs or assigns &c or her or their council learn’d in the law shall lawfuly require. In witness whereof the said William Reeves Junr and Hardy Reeves hath hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written.
