IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Patience Gatewood of Essex County South farnham Parish, being weak of Body but of Sound mind & memory, do make & Constitute this to be my Last will & Testament all former wills being Void IMPR.s I Recommend my soul into the hands of my Blessed Redeemer hoping through the mercy of my Great Creator to be Received into heaven, and my Body to the Ground to be Interr’d at the Discretion of my Execu.rs Hereafter mentioned, ITEM I Lend unto my Beloved Daughter Sarah Gatewood The Land & houses on w.ch I now Live & two Negro Girles VIZ) Lily & Rose their Increase During her Natural Life and after her decease to the heirs of her Body Lawfully Begotten & for want of such heirs to be Equally Devided (sic) between her two Sisters Eliz.a Gatewood & Patience Gatewood & the heirs of their (indecipherable and striken) Bodys Lawfully Begotten ITEM I Permitt & Devise that my Loving Brother George Reeves Shall Live on my said Dwelling Place as Long as he Shall Remain Single, & to have & Use the same according as he hath hear to fore done ITEM I give & bequeath unto my Loving Daughter Eliz.a Gatewood one Shilling Sterling; as a Bar to her, of any claim or claims She Shall hereafter Lay to any Part of my Estate ITEM I give & bequeath unto my beloved Daughter Patience Gatewood Three Negroes (VIZ) Tuelup, Fanny & Jacob & their Increase to her & her heirs forever – Also I give to my Daughter aforesd. One pair of Gold bobs & one Gold Ring & one Stone Ring – ITEM I give & bequeath unto my Beloved Daughter Sarah Gatewood all the Rest of my Negroes VIZ Will, Selva, Janey, Ned, Ben & Violetto; Also one Silver Can & Seven Silver Spoons one Pair of Gold Bobs of three Gold Rings to her & The heirs of her body Lawfully begotten ITEM all my just debts being first paid I give & Bequeath to my Beloved Daughters Patience Sarah Gatewood all my Personal Estate to be Equally Devided (sic) between Them to them & their heirs forever ITEM I give & bequeath unto my Beloved Daughter Patience Gatewood one Negro Woman named January & her Increase to her & her heirs forever LASTLY I do Constitute & appoint my Beloved Brother George Reeves & my Friend Joseph Burnett Executor of this my Last will & Testament as Witness my hand & Seal this 17th day of June 1745her

AT A COURT held for Essex County at Tappahannock on the Ninteenth day of November Anno Domini 1745 This Last will and Testament of Patience Gatewood deceased was presented into Court by the Executors therein Named and proved by the oaths of all the Witnesses thereto and the said Witnesses who being Examined as to the first Paragraph of the said Will with Regard to the Land Devised by the said Testratrix in the said Will They Unanimously Concur in their Sentiments that they understood that She Intended her whole Land Consisting of Two Tracts Should pass by the said Will which was ordered to be Recorded and is Truly Recorded ~
