Transcript

To all Christian people to whom these presents shall come Greeting Know ye that I George Rives in the County of Northamton in the province of North Carolina planter for & in consideration of the sum of Fifty pounds to me in hand paid before the Ensealing & Delivery hereof, by James Parham of Virginia in the County of Brunswick in Saint Andrews Parrish the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge & my self therewith fully satisfied and contented & thereof and of every part & parcel thereof do exonerate, aquit & Discharge the said James Parham, his heirs executors & administrators for ever by these presents Have given grated bargained sold aliened conveyed & confirmed & by these presents do freely fully & absolutely give grant bargain sell alein convey & confirm unto the said James Parham his heirs & assigns forever, One certain messuage & tract of land situate lying and being in Saint Andrews Parrish in the County of Brunswick containing by Estimation Fifty acres more or less it being a tract or parcel of land granted to the sd George Rives by a Deed of Gift bearing date the Twenty Ninth day of November one thousand seven hundred and forty six by Thomas Rives his father, Butted & Bounded as followeth Viz. Beginning a Red Oak by the side of a Gutt thence east down a Dividing line to a Red Oak a corner Tree of Jeremiah Browns land thence North West along the said Browns Line to a Red Oak a corner tree thence southwest to the aforesaid gutt & so down the said Gutt as it meanders to the first station.
To have & to hold the said granted and bargained premises with all the Appurtenances previledges and commodities to the same belonging or in anywise appurtaining, to him the said James Parham his heirs and assigns forever. To his & their only proper use benifit and behoof forever. And I the said George Rives for me my heirs executrs Administrators do covenant promise & grant to & with the said James Parham his heirs & assigns that before the ensealing hereof I am the true sole & lawfull owner of the above bargained premises and am lawfully seized and possessed of the same in mine own proper right, as a good perfect & absolute estate of inheritance; and have in my self good right, full proven & lawfull authority to grant bargain sell convey & confirm the said Bargained premises in manner as above said and that the said James Parham his heirs & assigns shall & may from time to time & at all times for ever hereafter, but Virtue of these presents, Lawfully peacebly and quietly have hold use, occupy possess & enjoy the said Demised and bargained premises, with the appurtenances free & clear & freely & clearly aquited exonerated & discharged, of & from & all manner of former gifts, grants, bargains sales leases, mortgages, wills entails joynters dowerys judgments executions incumbrances & troubles whatsoever, in as full & ample manner to all intents and purposes as the most learned in the law can advise and I the said George Rives do further covenant & bind my self my heirs executors & administrators firmly by these presents to warrant & Defend the said James Parham his heirs & assigns in quiet & peaceable possession of all & singular the said granted premises against any just & lawfull claim of any person or persons whatsoever. In witness whereof I the said George Rives have hereunto sett my hand and seal this fifth day of May in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred & forty eight.

Memorandum that this Fifth Day of May Anno Dom one thousand seven hundred & forty eight. Peaceable & Quiet possession and seizen of the said Messuage and lands & other the premises in this Deed contained and delivered by the within named George Rives unto the within named James Parham according to the form & effect of this deed.

This Deed with the memorandum of Livery of Seizen thereon endorsed was acknowledged by the within named George Rives & Ordered to be Recorded and Mary the wife of the said George Appeared in Court & being first privately examined as the law directs freely & voluntarily relinquished her right of dower in the lands within mentioned.
