Transcript

This Indenture made this 29th Day of November in the Year of Our Lord one Thousand seven Hundred and sixty Between Peter Rives of the County of Sussex of the one part and John Hardy of the County of Dinwiddie of the other part, Witnesseth that the said Peter Rives for and in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said John Hardy the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge he the said Peter Rives hath granted bargained and sold, aliened & confirmed and by these presents doth grant bargain sell alien and confirm unto the said John Hardy his heirs and assigns forever one certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred acres more or less situate lying and being in the county of Sussex Beginning at a Pine in the north prong of the hunting quarter near the Indian spring, thence north along a line that divides William Rives and the said Peter to a gum the outside line thence up the line as mentioned in the patent granted to Richard Rives to a forked pine and thence to the Beginning, also seventy acres more which the said Peter Rives purchased of John Spain by Deed bearing date the tenth day of August one Thousand seven hundred and fifty one which said land is bounded as follows Beginning at a pine on river line made a corner on the north prong of the hunting quarter swamp thence along a row of marked trees to a maple on the south prong of the hunting quarter swamp and down the various water courses to Nathaniel Hoods line to a corner gum, thence along the said Hoods line to the said Rives line to the first Beginning, and also all woods, waters, water courses, meadows, marshes &c to the above said land belonging or any wise appertaining and also the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders Rents and profits of the said lands and of every part thereof, and all the estate, right, title interest claim and demand whatsoever of him the said Peter Rives of in and to the said lands and premises and every part thereof belonging To have and to hold the said two hundred and seventy acres of land and all and singular the said premises above mentioned and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances thereunto belonging unto the said John Hardy his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of the said John Hardy his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Peter Rives for him and his heirs the said land and premises and every part thereof against him and his heirs, and against all and every other person and persons whatsoever to the said John Hardy his heirs and assigns, shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In witness whereof the said Peter Rives hath hereunto set his hand and affixed his seal the day and year above written.

At a court held for Sussex County the 16th Day of July 1761. This Indenture was proved to be the act and deed of the thereto subscribed Peter Rives by the oaths of William Gilliam Jr & Richard Hardie two of the witnesses thereto.
At a court continued & held for Sussex County the 21st Day of Augst 1761. This Indenture was further proved to be the act and deed of the thereto subscribed Peter Rives by the oath of Richard Rose the other witness thereto, and by the court ordered to be recorded.
