This Indenture made this twentyfirst day of January in first years of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord George the third by the Grace of God of Great Britain France and Ireland King Defender of the Faith &c and in the year of our Lord Christ One Thousand seven Hundred and sixty two Between Richard Rives junior and Mary his wife of the Province of North Carolina of the one part, and Thomas Cureton of the County of Prince George Witnesseth that the said Richard Rives jr. and Mary for and in consideration of the sum of one Hundred and ten pounds current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said Thomas Cureton the receipt whereof the said Richard Rives jr. and Mary doth hereby acknowledge, they the said Richard Rives jr. and Mary hath granted, bargained sold aliened enfeoffed and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff and confirm unto the said Thomas Cureton his heirs and assigns forever, all that seat tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the Parish of Albemarle and County of Sussex, on the South side of Nottoway River and Bounded as follows, to wit, Beginning at an elm upon William Eldridges line thence up the said Eldridge's line to a large Pine, thence by a line of marked trees to William Pettaway's line, thence down the said Pettway's line to the flatt swamp, thence down the run of the said swamp to the tree begun at, to include one hundred and eighty five acres, more or less, Together with all the houses, gardens, orchards & stables, and all the reversion and reversions, remainder and remainders, rents, issues and services of all & singular the said premises, and every part and parcel thereof, and all the estate, right, title, interest, claim and demand and whatsoever of them the said Richard Rives jr. and Mary of and in the said premises and to every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land, and singular the premises hereby granted bargained and sold and every part and parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Thomas Cureton his heirs and assigns forever. To the only use and behoof of the said Thomas Cureton his heirs and assigns forever. And the sd Richard Rives junior and Mary their heirs and assigns the said tenement tract piece or parcel of land and premises above mentioned with the appurtenances to the said Thomas Cureton his heirs and assigns against them the said Richard Rives junr. and Mary their heirs and all other persons shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents. In witness whereof the said Richard Rives jr. and Mary hath hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written.

Memorandum That this twenty first day of January in the year of Our Lord one Thousand seven Hundred and sixty two We Richard Rives junior and Mary Rives did by turf and twigg deliver unto the within named Thomas Cureton possession and seizure of the lands & premises within mentioned. To hold to the said Thomas Cureton his heirs and assigns forever. According to the true intent and meaning of the within written Deed. In witness whereof the said Richard and Mary Rives have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written.

Mary wife of the within named Richard Rives personally appeared in Court and being priority and a part from her said husband examined freely & voluntarily relinquished her right of dower, of, in & to the land and premises conveyed by the written indenture.
