Transcript

I Joseph Reeve of Northampton in the County of Burlington in West New Jersey yeom son of William Reeve, being sick in Body but of sound and perfect mind and memory, thanks be to Almighty God therefor, calling to mind the mortality of my Body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to Die, do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament Imprimis it is my will and I do hereby order that all my just Debts and funeral charges be well and truly paid and satisfied out of y personal estate by my executors herein after named
Item I Give and Bequeath unto my dear & well beloved wife Jane Reeve all my moveables or personal Estate whatsoever, after my just Debts and Funeral Charges are paid, and also the use of my piece of marsh so long as she shall Dwell on the plantation where I now dwell, being my fathers plantation. I also give and devise unto my said wife the Rent or profits of that House & Land herein after devised unto my son Henry untill my son Henry shall attain the age of twenty one years all which I give her for and in lieu of her Dower
Item I Give and Bequeath unto my eldest son John Reeve & to his Heirs and assigns forever. All that piece of marsh which I purchased of Walter Reeve to enjoy it after my wife shall leave the place of my Fathers, and on condition that he my said son John do pay to my son Abraham Reeve the sum of five pounds current money of New Jersey when my said son Abraham shall attain the age of twenty one years, and if my son John should refuse or neglect to pay the said five pounds then I order my executors or the survivor of them to sell the said land and pay the said five pounds, and return the overplus to my son John, if any be
Item I Give and Bequeath unto my son Henry Reeve and to his heirs and assigns forever, all my Dwelling house and parcel of land in Wellingborough which I purchased of William Ferrell, under condition that he do pay unto my son Abraham the sum of Ten pounds current money of New Jersey, when my said son Abraham shall attain the age of twenty one years
Item it is my will and I do hereby order that my two sons Joseph & Abraham be put to learn trades, of their choice at the age of fourteen years. Item I give and Bequeath unto my son Joseph Reeve and to his heirs and assigns forever. All that my tract or parcel of land, adjoining to Nathaniel Haines which I purchased of Walter Reeve. But in case my son Joseph should die before he attain the age of twenty one years I give and Bequeath the said land unto my son Abraham Reeve his heirs and assigns forever.
I also will and order that my wife Jane Reeve do clear and fence that six acres of swamp that was greasbed? of that land bequeathed to my son Joseph as soon as may be and I do constitute and ordain my wife Jane Reeve and my son John Reeve Executrix and Executor of this my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty eighth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & sixty seven.

Signed sealed published and declared by the said Joseph Reeve as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us. Samuel Roxeyans?. Isaac Hillier John Burr junr

Isaac Hillier one of the witnesses to the within will being one of the people called Quakers on his solemn affirmation which he took, doth declare he was present and saw Joseph Reeve the testator therein named sign and seal the same, and heard him publish pronounce and declare the sd writing to be his last will and Testament at the doing thereof the said Testator was of sound and disposing mind & memory as far as he knows & verily believes. also that Samuel Roneyans and John Burr junr was present and signed their names as witnesses together with this affirment in presence of said Testator. Isaac Hiller affirmed at Burlington the 26th September 1767 Before Jos Read Surrogate
The foregoing will being proved probate was granted (by his excellency Governor Trumblin) unto Jane and John Reeve Executrix & Executor therein named being first sworn truly to perform the same to exhibit a true inventory & render a true account when lawfully required. Given under the prerogative seal at Burlington the day & year afsd Cha Read Regr
