Transcript

In the Name of God Amen I Puryer Reeve of Southold in the County of Suffolk and Province of New York Yeoman being sick and weak in body but of a sound disposing mind and memory thanks be given to God for the same and calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die after that the judgment do make and ordain this my last will and testament in form and manner following after all my just debts and funeral expenses are paid and satisfyed by my executors after named
Imprimis I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Mary Reeves the use and improvement of all my lands and meadows except eight acres joyning to the north road and an half acre lying northward of the North road so long as she shall remain my widow and no longer
Item I give and bequeath unto my eldest son Hezekiah Reeves to his heirs and assigns forever after my wifes interest therein all my lot of land lying between the land of William Penny and the north road aled fifty acres and the house and half acre of land on wich he now lives lying north of the said road also a certain piece of meadow lying at Saw mill Brook bounded east by the meadow of David Parshall deceased south by the brook next by a certain little spot of upland lying in said meadow North by the pland he paying to my second daughter Mehitabel Reeve twenty pounds New York money within four years after my death or at her marriage day which may first happen and if my son Hezekiah shall refuse to pay the above sd twenty pounds then my will is that my executors after named shall sell as much of the land above given to him as shall be soficsent to pay the said twenty pounds
Item I give and bequeath to my second son Puryer Reeve twenty pounds New York currency
Item I give and bequeath unto my two youngest sons namely Isaac & Selah Reeve equally between them their heirs and assigns forever after my wifes interest therein all the rest of my lands and meadows not above mentioned or given to my son Hezekiah
Item I give and bequeath unto my second daughter Mehetable Reeve one cow three ewes and three lambs one bed with all the furniture belonging to the same
I give and bequeath to my eldest daughter Mary Fanning ten shillings New York money and my will is that after all my just debts and leases above mentioned are paid ad satisfyed that the remainder of all my moveable estate shall remain or be used and improved by my wife during her natural life and after her decease to go to my youngest sons namely Isaac and Selah Reeves and my daughter Mehetable Reves equally between them and my will is that my wife shall give to her nephew Sarah Lhomedieu one bed if she thinks proper lastly I do nominate constitute and appoint my brother in law Benjamin Lhomedieu and my beloved wife Mary Reeve executors of this my last will and testament ratifying and confirming the same Signed sealed published and declared by the subscriber Puryer Reeve to be his last will and testament this twenty fifth day of November in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and eighty two

Suffolk County Be it Remembered that on the thirteenth day of April one thousand seven hundred and eighty four personally came and appeared before me Jared Landon Surrogate of the said County Daniel Wells Esqr & Sarah Lhomedieu ?stress spintress both of the County aforesaid and being duly sworn on their oaths declared that they and each of them did see Puryer Reeve sign and seal the within written instrument purporting to be the will of the said Puryer Reeve bearing date the twenty fifth day of November 1782 and heard him publish and declare the same as and for his last will and testament that at the time thereof he the said Puryer Reeve was of sound disposing mind and memory to the best of the knowledge and belief of them the deponents and that their names subscribed to the will are of their respective proper hand writing which they subscribed as witnesses to the said will in the testators presents and that they the deponents saw Henry Corwin the other witness to the said will subscribe his name as witness thereto in the testators presence
