This Indenture made the 31st October one thousand seven hundred & ninety three Between Frederick & his son Alexander Rives of the County of Franklin of both parts & Reubin Brown of the sd County of the other part witnesseth that for an in consideration of the sum of sixty pounds current money of Virginia to the sd Fredk and Alexander Rives in hand paid by the sd Reubin Brown at or before the sealing & delivering of these presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge & thereof doth release acquit & discharge the sd Reubin Brown his Heirs Executors & administrators by these presents the sd Fredk & Alexander Rives hath granted bargained sold alliened released and confirmed unto the said Reuben Brown in his actual possession now being & his Heirs one certain tract of land in the said County of Franklin & lying on the waters of Pigg River it being the said land the said Brown lives on containing by estimation three hundred acres be the same more or less & bounded as followeth viz Beginning on a corner Spanish oak on Pigg River old Road thence down the said Road to Island Creek the order line thence down the said line to pointers thence north to a corner chesnut thence west to pointers on the old dividing line of the order thence south to the first station corner Spanish oak with all Houses buildings orchardss ways water & water courses profits commodities hereditaments & appurteances whatsoever to the said premises hereby granted or any part thereof belonging or in any wise appurtaiining and the revertion & revertions remainder & remainders & also all the estate right title trust property claim & demand & wahtsoever of him the sd Redk & Alexander Rives oof in and to the said premises and all deeds evidences & writing touching on in any wise concerning the same to have and to hold the said three hundred acres of land and all & singular other the premises hereby granted and released and every part & parcel theref with there appertenances unto the said Brown his Heirs and assigns for ever to the only proper use & behoof of him the sd Reubin Brown his heirs and assigns for ever & the said Fredk & Alexander Rives for themselves their heirs executors and administrators doth covenant promise and grant to & with the said Reubin Brown his heirs and assigns by these presents that the said Fredk & Alexander Rives now at the time of sealing & delivering these presnts is seized of a Good sure perfect and indefeazeable state of inheritance in fee simple of in the premises hearby granted and released that they have good lawfull and absolute authority to grant and convey the same to the said Reubin Brown the said three hundred acres of land in manner and form aforesaid and that the said premises now are and so for ever hereafter shall remain and be free and clear from all former grants dowers and titles of dowers and in cumberances whatsoever and the quit rents hereafter to grow due & payable to the common wealth of Virginia from the said Reubin Brown and we the said Fredk & Alexander Rives and our Heirs & all and every other person whatsoever shall warrant and forever defend by these presents in witness whereof we the said Fredk and Alexander Rives hath hereunto set our hands & seal this 2nd day of November one thousand seven hundred & ninety threeSigned Sealed & delivered }Fredk Rives (Seal)

Franklin December Court 1793 This Indenture was proved by the oaths of the witnesses hereto subscribed to be the act & deed of the within named Alexander Rives & acknowledged by the within named Frederick Rives to be his act & deed & Mary Magdalin wife of said Frederick Rives being privilly examined separate & apart from her husband relinquished her right of dower in and to the said land & premises - & the same was ordered to be recorded.
