Know all men by these presents that I Henry Rives of Richland County planter in consideration of Seventy pound to me in hand paid by William Hendrix of Spartanburgh County of the State aforesaid planter, have granted bargained sold and released, and by these presents do grant bargain sell and release unto the said William Hendrix, all that plantation or tract of land lying in Spartanburgh County originally granted to William Rives for five hundred acres on the waters of Tyger river bounded by a line running NE 70 70 70 NW 20 70 71 SW 70 70 71 SE 20 70 70 more or less together with all and singular the rights members hereditaments and appurtenances to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident or apertaining to have and to hold all and singular the premises before mentioned unto the said William Hendrix hhis heirs and assigns and assigns for ever and I also hereby bind myself my heirs executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said William Hendrix his heirs and assigns against myself my heirs and against every other person whomsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or every part thereof witness my hand and seal this 25th January one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight and of the American Independece

I Isaac Tucker one of the Judges of Richland County do hereby certify unto all whom it may concern that Jenny Rives wife of the within named Henry Rives did this day appear before me and upon being privately and separately examined by me did declare that she does freely, (?) and without any compulsion dread or fear of any person or persons whomsoever, renounce, release, and forever relinquish unto the within named William Hendrix his heirs and assigns all her interest and estate and all her (?) and claim of Dower of in or to all and singular the premises within mentioned and released - given under my hand and seal this 7th of February one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight
