Transcript

In the name of God Amen. I William Reeve of Brentwood in the County of Essex Malster do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following
First I resign my soul to almighty God hoping through the merits of Jesus Christ my saviour to enjoy perpetual rest in heaven and my Body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at Shenfield and as for worldly effects in ? in manner following
First I give unto my wife Miriam after my just debts are discharged the house I now live in with the malting in the Back Street for and during the natural life and after her decease I give and bequeath the aforesaid premises to my children viz William Sarah John and Elizabeth to be equally divided to them share and share alike
I give and bequeath at my decease all that messuage or tenement opposite the chapel in Brentwood now in the tenure of Chriss Davis and Robert Baker to my son William my daughter Sarah son John and Daughter Elizabeth to be equally divided to them share and share alike and all monies goods and chattels I give to my four children to equally divided among them and I do hereby nominate and appoint my Brother Jonah Reeve Grocer of Bocking and my son William Reeve join executors of this my last will and Testament
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of March in the of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty seven
I give and bequeath unto my Brother Jonah ten pounds my executor with my son

Appeared Personally Peregrine Hogg of Mare Street in the Parish of Saint John ? in the County of Middlesex stock Broker and Samuel Houston of Great Saint Helens London backer who being severally sworn upon the holy evangelists to depose the truth made oath as follows that they knew and were well acquainted with William Reeve late of Brentwood in the County of Essex deceased for several years before and to the time of his decease and during such their knowledge and acquaintance with the said deceased having frequently seen him write and subscribe his name whereby they and each of them have become well acquainted with his ? character of hand writing and they the deponents having now carefully ? and perused the paper writing thereunto annexed purporting to be the last will and testament of the said deceased beginning thus...

This will was proved at London the twenty third day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety nine before the worshipful Alexander Crose Doctor of Laws surrogate off the Right honorable Sir William Wynne Knight also Doctor of Laws Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the oaths of Jonah Reeve the Brother and William Reeve the son of the deceased and the executors named in the said will to whom administration was granted of all and singular the Goods chattels and Credits of the said deceased having been first sworn duly to Administer.
