In the Name of God Amen, I Samuel Reeves of Rowan County in the State of North Carolina, being weak of Body, but of perfect mind and Memory, make this my Last Will and Testament. First as my Son Thomas Reeves has received the Portion of my Property which I have allotted him, I exempt him from any Share or claim of any part of my Estate after my decease, secondly I Will and bequeath unto my well beloved Wife Mary Reeves, one Negro Man named George, during her widowhood, Thirdly I will and bequeath unto my Son James Reeves an Equal Share of the remainder of my Estate both real and personal after my decease; yet so, as to include a Horse which he has in possession. Item I will and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Alexander an Equal part of the remainder of my Estate both real and Personal, which is my desire Shall be paid them directly after my decease, to be levied from such part of my property, as may be adequate to satisfying the above mentioned persons Viz James Reeves, and Mary Alexander, so that no part or parcel of my Land may be disposed of for that purpose. Item I will and bequeath unto my Son James Reeves the Sum of fifty Dollars, it being a Legacy left the said James Reeves by his Grand Father James Watson which is now in my hands, to be levied out of my personal Property. The remainder of my Estate both real and personal I will and bequeath unto my well beloved Wife Mary Reeves during her widowhood and for her comfort and convenience in bringing up the family yet so that at the arrival of age, or day of marriage of any of my Children, excepting those above mentioned that are provided for, during the Life of my Wife aforementioned, that then the Estate to be appraised whether better or worse than at present, and then that Child to take its equal part of the Estate then in the hands of my Wife, who must be accountable for all the Estate then in her hands upon Oath, and then the remainder of the estate to remain in the hands of my Wife until the next child shall come of age and then in like manner on as they shall come of age. Lastly I constitute and appoint my Son Thomas Reeves, my well beloved Wife Mary Reeves and Charles Mills, my Joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament, declaring, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this fourteenth day of February in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight Hundred and one.
