Know all men by these Presents that I John Rives Planter in Chester District have bargained and sold unto Alexander Rosborough Physician in the District aforesaid one negro man named Luke nineteen years of age for and in consideration of five hundred dollars to me paid in hand before the sealing and delivering of these presents & do warrant the aforenamed Negro to be a sound healthy man. And do hereby warrant and defend the property or title of the above said Negro Luke to the aforesaid Alexander Rosborough against all persons whomsoever making claim to the aforesaid Negro, for the true performance of which I bind myself my heirs, Executors, or Administrators to the aforesaid Alexander Rosborough Physician, his heirs, Executors, Administrators or assigns, forever firmly by these presents. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twentieth day of november in the twenty ninth year of American Independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and four

Chester District  } Adams Ferguson Junr personally came before men the subscribing justice & made oath in due form of law and saith that he was present & did see John Rives sign seal & Deliver the within Instrument of writing to Docr Rosborough for the purposes therein mentioned and that he also saw Benjamin Rives (Father of sd Jno Rives) sign the same together with himself as subscribing witnesses to the same
