John Reeves entered service in the Revolutionary War in Burke County, NC in 1780. Pension Application of John Reeves (living in Madison County, Missouri) (R8684), August 27, 1833 states that he first mustered into service in September 1780 in Burke County, North Carolina, in Captain Thos. Price's Company under Colonel William Campbell. They were stationed at Earl's Fort in North Carolina, Balus Fort in South Carolina, and participated in several expeditions against the Cherokee Indians in Tennessee under Captain John Miller and Colonel James Miller and Colonel Joseph McDowell, serving a total of 14 months He states that he was born in Frederick County, Virginia in 1760, and at the age of five years moved with his father to Guilford County, North Carolina. Applicant moved to Madison County, Missouri in 1803. His wife, Rachael (Barnes), a widow, age about 78, filed a claim on April 20, 1855 for bounty land. Rachael stated that she and John married in South Carolina on May 1, 1786. John Reeves died in Missouri on April 30, 1834.
