Transcript

In the name of God Amen - I Stephen Reeves of the Township of Upper Alloways Creek in the County of Salem and State of New Jersey being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament as follows,
First - It is my will that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon as can be after my decease
Item - I give and devise to my three sons Enos P Reeves Jacob P Reeves and Josiah H Reeves all the following described property tracts or pieces of land as follows viz all my tract called the mill tract, with the mills, houses, buildings, waters, watterways, and improvements containing one hundred and twenty acres more or less, also the bickery lot containing thirty three acres more or less with the saw mill, houses, barns buildings, waters, watercourses and improvements thereon, also a lot called the Gibbs lot containing thirty six acres and three quarters more or less also the Gallaker lot, containing sixteen and a quarter acres, also the privilege of water right and flowing that I purchased of William Reeves also, one hundred and twenty acres of land I bought of Julia Latrobe in two lots, also my tavern house and lot in Allowaystown with all the buildings and improvements thereon, also my Glass house tract that I bought at Sheriff sale as the property of James Curry, also my lot that I bought of John Groff containing about twenty five acres also my Couch lot containing about five acres, also three lots that I purchased of James Ray on the Agnew tract and joining on the G? house tract, containing nine and a half acres, all of which said pieces? and tracts of land, buildings, Mills, waters, improvements, hereditaments and appurtenances herein given and devised to my said sons Enos P Reeves Jacob P Reeves and Josiah H Reeves I do devise and give to them as tenants in common during their natural lives, which after the death of either of them the said share of said deceased son to go to their lawful issue - and if ay of my said sons shall die without leaving lawful issue then their share to go to the survivors of the said three, or if any of them have deceased their lawful issue to have the share that would have gone to their father if living.
Item - I do give and devise to my son William Reeve all my lands in Beesley's Neck containing about two hundred and thirty two acres which I purchased of several different persons to wit about one hundred acres at sheriff sale sold as the property of Abner W Simplins, twenty five acres more or less bought of John Tuft, thirteen acres more or less of Smith Dickinson, Five acres more or less of Samuel Gosling, Fifty acres, more or less of Robert Johnson, Eighteen acres more or less or Abner Simpkioins Jun, twenty acres more or less of Robert Tinley, five acres more or less of the heirs of Naomi Stretch and twenty acres more or less of Thomas and Timothy Craft with all my land that may be joining and attached to the same. Also my stone house farm called the Edward Smith place containing one hundred and fifty three acres more or less, also my lots of Bushland that I purchased of Samuel Hazelhurst containing fifty acres more or less, which said lands I give and devise to my said son William during his natual life which after his death to go to his lawful issue and in case he should die without lawful issue the same to go to his brother Charles and Stephen and their lawful issue as aforesaid.
Item - I give and devise to my son Charles A Reeves my farm purchased of Joseph Sheppard containing ninety three acres, also the remainder of my land called the String land containing twenty nine acres more or less, also my land which I purchased of the estate of John Horn containing ninety three acres including the woodland I bought with the same, also my reed and string lot that I bought of Israel S Reed and the auditors making sale of David Strings property, containing seventy five acres, also the lot I bought of James Thompson containing eight acres, also one other lot bought of Samuel Ray, containing about six acres, also a lot I purchased of Benjamin Wright containing eight and a quarter acres, also a lot I bought of Halls adm of Samuel Nicholson containing eight acres more or less, also a tract of Bushland called the Wistar lot containing seventy six acres by the same more or less, which land I give and devise to my son Charles A Reeves during natural life which after his death to go to his lawful issue and in case he should die without lawful issue the same to go to his brothers William and Stephen and their lawful issue as aforesaid.
Item - I give and devise to my son Stephen Reeves my farm that I bought at sheriff sale formerly the property of Dav Smith containing one hundred and sixteen acres and a half, also a lot that I bought of Hezekiah Wright containing fifty three acres more or less also the remainder unsold of that tract that is called Schisler tract containing fifty five acres more or less also the lot of wood and bush land that I purchased of George Rewster and wife containing forty one acres be the same more or less, also the Goodin lot O bought of George Ward & Huldah Goodwin 31 acres, which said land I give and devise to my said son Stephen Reeve during his natural life which after his death to go to his lawful issue and if my said son Stephen shall die without leaving lawful issue the same to go to his brother William and Charles and to their lawful issue aforesaid
Item - I give and devise to my three daughters Hannah Ann Barker, Sarah Ann Ballinger, and Mary Jane Smith and to their heirs and assigns my mill and mill tract with all the appurtenances which I bought of Samuel Kean called the Niewkirk property - also all my Bank stock in Salem Bank being eleven hundred dollars together with all the dividend or profits not drawn before my decease - also my sloop John A Watson with all her tackle and appurtenances, also all my cord wood on hand with the bills and moneys due me for wood delivered at Philadelphia and all moneys being ninety six dollars due me from Captn Isaac Sitheus - also all moneys due me from Reeve and Brothers being about three hundred and thirty dollars or the plan and timber which I engaged of them in pact thereof provided the same is delivered agreeably to our contract
Item - I give and devise to my daughter Hannah Ann Barker her heirs and assigns that lot of woodland that I bought of John Tuft and William S Goung containing thirty three acres more or less
Item - I give and devise to my six sons viz Enos P Reeves Jacob P Reeves, Josiah H Reeves, William Reeves, Charles A Reeves and Stephen Reeves all my personal property including cash, obligations, mortgage debts or debts due me (otherwise than Book accounts or accounts herein before devised to my three daughters)
Item - I do give and devise to my six sons aforesaid all the residue and remainder of my real estate where and whatever to them their heirs and assigns to be divided equally between them share and share alike
Item - I give and bequeath to my son in law James B Barker my account books with all dues and debts due and owing to me at my decease to be collected by him to his own use and benefit
And I do appoint my son Enos P Reeves Guardian of the persons and property each of my sons Jacob P Reeves, Josiah H Reeves William Reeves & Charles A Reeves until they arive to the age of twenty one years - and said Guardian is hereby enjoined to keep their monies out at interest in the most safe manner possible
And I appoint my wife Sarah Reeve Guardian of the person and property of my son Stephen Reeve until he shall arrive to the age of Twenty one years
And I do order and direct my executors to procure and set up decent marble head and foot stones to the graves of my Father and Mother and myself
And I do hereby appoint my son Enos P Reeves and my son in law James B Barker, executors to this my last will and testament, and I do hereby revok and make void any and all wills other than this, heretofore made by me ratifying and confirming this my only and last will and testament this eighteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and forty two

Ellis Ayres and Samuel Skimp two of the witnesses of the within will being duly sworn doth depose and say that they saw Stephen Reeves the testator therein named sign and seal the same and heard him publish pronounce and declare the within instrument to be his last will and testament and that at the doing thereof the said testator was of sound and disposing mind and memory as far as they know and as they verily believe and that Benjamin R Skimp the other subscribing evidence was present at the same time and signed his name as witness to the said will together with these deponents and in the presence of the testator
