Transcript
Know all men by these presents that I Alexander S. Reaves of the County of Bedford & State of Tennessee, for and in consideration of the sum of one dollar to me in hand paid by Tarlton J. Reaves of the County and State aforesaid, and the further consideration hereinafter mentioned, I have sold and conveyed unto said Tarlton J. his executors & administrators, two negroes named Hartwell and Mary, aged about nine and three years. To have and to hold to him the said Tarlton J. &c But upon the following trusts and for no other purpose that is to say, I have this day executed to said Tarlton J a note under seal for the sum of $625.00 due Jany 1st 1847 for a tract of land purchased by my from said Tarlton J. Now if I pay said note when the same falls due then this conveyance is to be void, But if I fail to pay the same then said Tarlton J is authorised to sell said negroes publickly or privately for cash or on a credit, and with the proceeds pay said debt and interest and the balance if any pay over to me or my order.Given under my hand and seal this 22nd day of March 1843
