Tarleton appears in Lowndes County, Alabama in 1835 where he sold some land to William B. Saffold of Dallas County, Alabama.

Bedford County Chancery Court records include a "Bill of Complaint of Joseph Thompson administrator of Tarlton J. Reeves deceased filed against Benjamin G Reeves in the chancery court of Shelbysville." It describes ""Tarlton J Reeves late a citizen of said county of Bedford departed this life intestate in the month of 1846." It states "in the summer or fall of 1845 he placed in the hands of his brother Benjamin S Reeves in Bedford County two teems horses and two new waggons" etc for the purpose of doing trade in Alabama and other parts of the south. He apparently sold the items and his partner in trade did not receive a fair share of the proceeds. In the answer of Benjamin S. Reeves, it states that "Tarlton J Reeves departed this life in the month of Octr 1846." He further stated "in the summer of 1845 Tarlton J Reeves and Alexander S Reeves left the state of Tennessee for Alabama with two waggons and teams."

In an 1841 entry in the Bedford County Deed books, Archibald Jr states that his father was Archibald Reeves Senr., decd, and that he gave his right to the estate to Tarleton J. Reeves.

Several Chancery Court minutes entries list the children of Tarleton J. Reeves. In one of the entries having to do with selling a portion of the estate, it lists: " Mary J. Reeves, Archibald S. Reeves, Frances J. Reeves, Henry C. Reeves, and Elizabeth J. Reeves children and heirs at law of the said Tarlton J. Reeves decd."

The widow apparently remarried to Charles Smith. Charles Smith is found in the 1860 census in Copano, Refugio, Texas with "Arch Reeves" in the household, age 20.
