Commentary

At the time of her marriage to James GAWN, Ann is recorded as Ann Phillips. Rebecca Phillips married Charles Reeves at the Registry Office at Newport, IoW during 1q1851, so Rebecca would be James GAWN's step-daughter in modern terminology.

Rebecca is shown as married, but her husband is not present in this household. A married Charles Reeves, but without his wife, is found living with his parents at Portsea on the 1851 census. The birth of Rebecca Ann Reeves, whose mothers maiden name was Philips (sic) was registered in the Newport (IoW) Sub-District during 2q8151, so it is probable Rebecca returned to her mother's home for her confinement.
