Commentary

The Wiltshire parish of Plaitford was one of three Wiltshire places included in the Romsey Registration District of Hampshire.

Sherfield, Hampshire is presumed to be the enumerator's shorthand for Sherfield English.

FreeBMD notes the marriage of William Rogers and Mary Ann REEVES during 1q1839 in the Romsey Registration District.
FamilySearch notes the same marriage occurred on 11 February 1839 at the Parish Church of St Leonard, Sherfield English. The bride was recorded as being just 20 years of age, so born around 1819 or 1820.
On the 1861 census Mary A Rogers indicates she is 40 years old, so born c1820 and again claims birth in West Wellow, Wiltshire.

Given Mary is consistent with her age and place of birth, it is highly unlikely her parents are William and Sarah (nee FOX) who baptised a son William during March 1819 in the nearby parish of Mottisfont and a daughter Caroline during February 1822 at the same place.

On the 1841 census this second William Reeves was living at Cupernham in the parish of Romsey with (wife) Sarah and three children and he is simply described as a Labourer. Their second youngest son, Osman was baptised at Romsey in September 1836 and their youngest son Jesse was also baptised in Romsey in March 1839.

It is more probable that Mary Ann Rogers (nee Reeves) parent's are William Reeves who married Sarah Elizabeth MARSH in November 1818 in the parish of Sherfield English, but this has yet to be researched and conclusively proved.
