The Indenture made the __ day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty three Between Betsey Canfield, John M. Reeve and Sarah his wife Doctor W. Reeve and Susan C his wife all of the City of Newark Sarah Headley & Victor R. Headley & Sarah his wife of the township of Union James C Reeve and Julia K. Wade of the township of Clinton Victor K. Reeve & Abby his wife John S Reeve & Abby his wife, James Reeve, Eliza Reeve, Joel Reeve William Wiklison & Mary his wife of the township of Springfield Moses Reeve & Abigail H. his wife & Jonas W Reeve & Mary C. his wife of the township of New Providence and all in the County of Essex and State of New Jersey of the first part and Abner S. Reeve of the City of Newark in the County of Essex and State of New Jersey of the second part Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of eleven hundred dollars lawful money of the United States of America to them in hand well and truly paid by the said party of the second part at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and the said party of the first part therewith fully satisfied contended and paid have given granted bargained sold aliened released enfeoffed conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do gie grant bargain sell alien release enfeoff convey and confirm to the said party of the second part and to his heirs and assigns forever all that tract or parcel of land and premises hereinafter particularly described situate lying and being in the township of Springfield in the County of Essex and State of New Jersey
Beginning at the centre of the road heading from chillville? to Newark and at the centre of the bridge across the last branch of the Rahway river and running thence nothwesterly along the east ridge of the said ? road to the centre of the road leading to Orange thence along said Orange road to the southerly line of land belonging to Water S Reeve & thence along his line the line of land belonging to Gilbert Reeve a southeasterly course to the middle of the east branch of the Rahway river thence down the said river to the place of beginning: containing fourteen acres be the same more or less being the same lot of land and premises described in William Reeve's last will and testament bearing date on the 27th July AD 1804 and recorded in Book A of wills in Essex County page 188& 189 as "situate between Rahway river and the road leading along the side of the mountain past John Durins containing about fourteen acres of land more or less." And by his said last will and testament he gives & bequeaths to his son Watts Reeve the use of the said lad and he further in his said last will and testament devises as follows viz "And I further give and bequeath the above described tract of land to any widow my said son Watts may leave during the time she may continue to be his widow & no longer and at the decease of my said son Watts or any widow he may leave I order and direct said lot of land above described to be sold and the money arising from such sales to be equally divided amongst the children of said Watts Reeve that he now has or hereafter may have whether male or female I give and bequeath the above to the mand their heirs and assigns forever" and the said parties of the first part we are all the parties who are entitled to the said tract or parcel of land & premises before described under & by virtue of the said last will and testament of the said William Reeve deceased and hereby convey the same with the appurtenances unto the said Abner S. Reeve.
Together with all and singular the houses buildings trees ways waters profits privileges and advantages with the appurtenances to the same belonging or in any wise appurtaining also all the estate right title interest property claim and demand whatsoever of the said party of the first part of in and to the same and of in and to every part and parcel thereof To have and to hold all and singular the above described tract or parcel of land and premises with the appurtenances unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns to the only proper use benefit and behoof of the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Betsy Canfield John M Reeve Doctor W Reeve Sarah Headley Victor K Headley James C Reeve Julia K Wade Victor K Reeve John S Reeve Jane Reeve Eliza Reeve Joel Reeve William Wilks Moses Reeve and Jonas W Reeve do for themselves their heirs executors and administrators covenant and grant to and with the party of the second part his heirs ad assigns that the said parties of the first part are the true lawful and right owners of all and singular the above described land and premises of every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances thereunto belonging and that the said land and premises or any part thereof at the time of the sealing and delivery of these presents are not encumbered by any mortgage judgement or limitation or by any encumbrance whatsoever by which the title of the said party of the second party hereby made or intended to be made for the above described land and premises can or may be changed or charged altered or defeated in any way whatsoever. And also that the said party of the first part now have good right full power and lawful authority to grant bargain sell and convey the said land and premises in manner aforesaid. And also that they will warrant secure and forever defend the said land and premises unto the said Abner S Reeves his heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claims and demands of all and every person and persons fully and clearly freed and discharged of and from all manner of incumbrances whatsoever.
In witness whereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto set their hands and seals in the day and year first above written.
