Transcript

I George Reeve of Newburgh in the County of Orange being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say.
I order and direct my executrix hereinafter named to pay all my just debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease as conveniently may be.
I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Caroline all my household furniture of every kind and description to hold the same to her own use and benefit forever. I also give and bequeath to my wife Caroline the sum of ten thousand dollars to be paid to her out of the proceeds of my personal & real estate and to hold the same to her own use and benefit forever.
All the rest & residue of my estate both real and personal I give devise and bequeath to my three children Maria W., Arianna, amd George Henry to be equally divided between them share and share alike to have and to hold the same to my said three children their heirs and assigns forever.
And for the purpose of ensuring the payment of the said legacy to my wife Caroline and affecting a just distribution of my estate amongst my children I authorize and empower my said executrix to sell and dispose of my real estate or of any part thereof in such parcels and at such times and upon such terms of credit either at public or private sale as she in her discretion may deem best and to execute and deliver good and sufficient conveyances in law & in fee simple for the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof. And to apply the proceeds of such sale or sales to the payment of the said legacy of ten thousand dollars to my wife Caroline or to the payment of such part thereof as my personal estate shall prove insufficient to pay. And then to divide the residue of such proceeds amongst my said three children share and share alike.
And I do hereby declare that the legacy and bequests to my wife Caroline hereinafter mentioned shall be in lieu & satisfaction of her dower in my real estate.
I do also constitute and appoint my said wife Caroline executrix of this my last will, hereby revoking all former wills & codicils by me made.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this thirtieth day of October one thousand eight hundred and fifty four.

Orange Surrogate Court At a Surrogate Court held at the Surrogates Office in Newburgh in and for the County of Orange on the fourth day of November, in the year one thousand eight hundred and fifty four, Present James U Fowler, Surrogate.
The examination of the witnesses in these matters having been ordered to be proceeded with forthwith, Caroline Reeve and Maria Reeve the petitioners in this matter appear in person, and Stephen W Fullerton Ju special guardian of Ariana S. Reeve, and George Henry Reeve, minors, also appears in person, and thereupon the proofs were produced in relation to the due execution and publication of the said last will and testament of the said George Reeve, deceased. And thereupon it is ordered, adjudged and decreed by the said surrogate, by virtue of the power and authority in him vested, that the said last will and testament of the said deceased was duly executed and published, that the same is genuine and valid and that the said testator, at the time of executing the same, was in every respect competant to devise real estate. And it is further ordered, adjudged and decreed, that the said will, with the proofs and examination taken in respect to the same, be recorded, that letters testamentary thereon issue to the said Caroline Reeve, the said executrix named therein she first taking the oath or affirmation required by law, and that the said will be, and the same is hereby established as a will of real and personal estate.
