Transcript

I Mary B. Rives of Brunswick County, Virginia do hereby make my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say:
Item 1st. It is my will and desire that all my just debts shall be paid by my executor in any way that he may think most beneficial to my estate.
Item 2d. I give and bequeath to my daughters Mary C. Fraser, Susan F. Hamilton & Maria L. Wheeler each one bed.
Item 3d I lend to my daughter Ann E. Reeks to be kept in trust for her benefit by my son John J. Rives, three hundred dollars ...at her death, I give and bequeath the same to my son John J. Rives, to him and his heirs forever.
Item 4th. All monies and bonds, together with the rest of my estate, both real and personal of whatever nature or kind soever it may be not herein before particularly disposed of, I give and bequeath to my son John J. Rives, to him and his heirs forever.
Lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my son J. J. Rives executor of this my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 27th day of June eighteen hundred and fifty five.

Brunswick County Court September term 1857
This last will and testament of Mary B. Rives decd was proved by the oaths of Caleb G. Oldham & Edward F. Oldham witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded, and on the motion of John J. Rives the executor therein named, who made oath thereto according to law, and, together with D. F. Poyner & Thomas Wheeler his securities, entered into a bond in the penalty of $6000, conditioned as the law directs which bond was acknowledged by the several obligations therein named and ordered to be recorded - certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate of each will in due form.
