Transcript

In the name of God - amen: I Sarah E. Reeves of the county of Meriwether and State of Georgia being of sound mind & memory, and considering the uncertainty of this frail & transitory life, do therefore make claim? this to be my last will & testament - That is to say, first after all my lawful debts are paid & discharged, the residue of my estate real & personal, I give bequeath & dispose of as follows, to wit:
First, I give bequeath & devise to my son Madison Reeves all of my entire interest in my land held & claimed by me now, with all the appurtenances,situated thereon - including the present growing crop, known & distinguished as lots numbers one hundred & forty-eight, and one hundred & thirty-one lying in the eighth district of Meriwether County - containing two hundred two and a half acres each. Together with all the interest I have in land herein not mentioned free from all charge & limitations whatever to his own use benefit & behoof forever with full force to dispose of the same by him or otherwise as he may deem proper. I also give & bequeath to my said son Madison Reeves in the same unreserved manner all of my stock consisting of mules & cattle - and all my household and kitchen furniture and my carriage - all without limitation and reserve
Second - I give & bequeath to my son Madison for & during his natural life only, my negroes, with them increase, free of charge - namely - Sam about forty seven years of age Jane a woman forty years of age Anna thirty four years old, Lealosn thirty years of age, Henry fourteen years of age, Lewis fifteen years of age, Annbell twelve years of age Susan eleven years old, Allis eight years of age. Martha six years old, and Isbell two years old. And after his death said negroes with their increase are to be equally divided between my grandchildren and the heirs of said grandchildren's bodies, by the first wives of my sons, namely, William, Thomas, Madison, and David Ellis, my son-in-law, share and share alike.
Third - I here constitute & appoint my son Madison Reeves executor of this my last will & testament this July 29th 1862

The within last will statement of Sarah E Reeves being here proven in open court at this regular term upon the oaths of Newman Thornton Thos Blalock & W W Jarnell, the subscribing witnesses to said will; it is ordered that the same be admitted to record as the true last will & testament of said deceased.
