He was promoted 2nd Lieutenant, Cornet or Ensign on 4 January 1857.
He was promoted Lieutenant on 24 May 1859 and to Captain on 4 January 1869.

(6 N. I. is probably the 6th Bombay Native Infantry, which was raised on 1 June 1796 - see page 525)
