SHOT DEAD BY BURGLAR

Dr. C. C. Ferrell, Alabama Educator Killed - Two Negroes Captured.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., May 2. - Dr. Chiles Clifton Ferrell, President of the West Pratt Mining Company, and a noted Southern author and educator, was killed by a burglar with a shotgun early today at Praco, a mining camp near here.

Bloodhounds were put on the trail, and two hours later two negroes were captured about a mile from the camp. One of the men had a shotgun.

Dr. Ferrell was born in 1850 (sic) at Greenville, S.C. and educated at Vanderbilt, the University of Leipzig, and the University of Paris. For many years he was Professor of Modern Languages at the University of Mississippi. He is survived by a widow and two children.
