My mother's maiden name was Reeves. Although she was born in York, her family came from Hastings in East Sussex. The earliest Reeves I can trace my line back to is Stephen Reeve born in 1639 in Ore, which is now a suburb of Hastings. The majority of the Reeves family stayed in the Hastings area but some did move to Brighton and London and one branch to the USA.

I have been researching my family history for about 30 years on and off; originally helping my mum but carrying on expanding the trees after she died.

After finishing my degree in Applied Chemistry, I trained as a teacher and worked in the Further Education Sector for a number of years. I then took time out to return to education myself and completed a PhD investigating why girls don't choose to study physics at A'level. I now work part time for the Diocese of Leeds, which had given my more time to return to family history research.
