It appears that Clara died sometime shortly after Travis' birth for in all census records thereafter, no wife is listed.

The 1910 Gibson County, Tennessee census lists Emerson's widowed sister, Sarah Blankenship Bryant and three of her children living in his household. After her death, her sons Jack and Herman are living in the household with Emerson and Travis Blankenship in the 1920 census.
