The Current Story for Group 06B
The patriarch of this group is John Durdan Reeves who is known to have been born in Halifax County, North Carolina on 30 May 1759 based upon statements in his Revolutionary War pension application of 1833. Billy Fred Reeves (kit 77786) and Larry Evans Reeves (kit 96859) both descend through John Durdan Reeves' son Richard Elwell Reeves with Charles Mercer Reeves (kit 50341) being a descendant of his son Micajah Reeves. The only other participant in this group is Donald Lawrence Reeves (kit 75573), whose grandfather William Reeves was born in Derbyshire, England in 1855 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1882. Donald matches two of the descendants of John Durdan Reeves listed above on the 25 marker test, but not on 37 markers. Any familial connection between Donald and the other members of this group is undoubtedly in the extremely distant past based upon the numerous markers that do not match above the 25 marker level.
After much research, no connections have been found to other Reeves' individuals in North Carolina and no DNA matches outside of the four descendants in DNA Group 06B. Descendant researchers from this line have explored various possible immigration theories, one of which is that he may have been part of the Monmouth Rebellion in England and was transported but thus far nothing has been found to confirm that theory.
The presence of Darden matches at 111 and 67 markers in Y-DNA tests has recently prompted one of the members of this group to begin investigations into that family. A Darden family was located in Halifax County NC at the time of John D. Reeves' birth and may be significant in the history of this lineage. The spelling of John D. Reeves middle name has been variously listed as Durden, Dearden and Darden which may be another indication of a connection to that Darden family.
