The Current Story for Group 09
DNA Group 9 has two members Arlie D. Reeves, #81847, and Nelson L. Reeves, #279089, who have documented lineages to Henry Reeves, Sr. of 17th century Essex County, Virginia. Each of these individuals descend from John Reeves (son of Thomas Reeves, Sr.) of Augusta and Rockingham counties in Virginia whose heirs and estate are well documented in the records of those counties. The ancestor of the other two participants, Kenneth V. Reeves, #12224, and John J. Reeves, #4XUGK, is John Reeves born circa 1770 in North Carolina whose origins are completely unknown. John Reeves migrated from North Carolina to Taylor County, Kentucky where he died in 1854. Kenneth V. Reeves is a descendant of his son Thornberry and John J. Reeves a descendant of his son John. This John Reeves could descend from another member of this Reeves' family who immigrated to the American colonies and is unknown to researchers. But it is far more likely that he descends from one of the two or three great grandsons of Henry Reeves who left the Essex County area and either died young or left no records that would connect them to this family after migrating away from that area of Virginia.
In the past it had been believed that George the son of Thomas Reeves, Sr. who was named in his brother's will, was George Reeves of Grayson County, Virginia but DNA has disproved that theory. The DNA of descendants of George Reeves of Grayson County do not match these documented descendants of this family. Descendants of the Grayson County Reeves' family are found in DNA Group 6A. Other than the 1754 Will of George Reeves of Spotsylvania County, there is no record of this George Reeves, but he may be a likely candidate for the father of the John Reeves born c1770 in North Carolina.
