DNA Group 20 - Home Page
The Current Story for Group 20
This new DNA group created in June 2018 currently has no known common ancestor. The three participants whose matching Y-DNA is the basis for this group have disparate lineages but the closeness of their DNA proves a familial connection in the not too distant past. Participant #48326, Sally Reeve Smith and her brother James who provided the DNA sample, trace their ancestry to Walter Reeve who immigrated from England sometime before 1682 and settled in Burlington, New Jersey.Participant Clay Woodrow Reeves, Jr., #B104212, whose DNA matches James Reeve above on 37 of 37 markers begins his pedigree with Thomas Reeve of Southold, Long Island. Most of the descendants of that family who have tested are members of DNA Group 5 which may indicate that a different Thomas Reeve was his ancestor. Apparently there was another Thomas Reeve(s) who arrived from Southampton, England on the ship "Beves" in 1638 as an indentured servant to Henry Byley of Salesbury. After Thomas served his indenture in Roxbury, Massachusetts, the next generation of this family was found in Southold, Long Island. Two generations later, descendants of this family were also located in New Jersey.
The third participant to match this group is Craig Johnson, #852118, who recently tested and found his Y-DNA a match to these two Reeve(s) participants. His earliest known ancestor is Eleazor Johnson, born in Newbury, Massachusetts in 1718 and he is a 66 of 67 marker DNA match to Clay Woodrow Reeves, Jr. His sister, Roberta Johnson Killeen, who is administering his kit would like to identify the connection to the Reeves family and has joined the Reeves DNA Project.
Hopefully we will be able to help solve this DNA puzzle.
