Family of William Reeves (Reves)

Family of William Reeves, Sr. of Wake County, NC

Image William Reves/Reeves was described as of Johnston County, North Carolina (location 11 on the adjacent map) when, in 1746, he received a McCulloch land grant for 400 acres on the Neuse River in what soon became part of Orange County, then Johnston once again in the 1760's and finally Wake County at its inception in 1771. That land is now part of Durham County and just outside the city of Durham.

His son, William Reves, Jr. served as a Tax Collector and Assessor in Wake County and was a Justice of the court there until at least 1803. He is named as a DAR Patriot based upon his civil service during the Revolution.

Once incorrectly believed to be associated with the Reeves family in Granville County, Y-DNA testing has proven that was not the case. Descendants of this family who have tested are found in DNA Group 6A matching descendants of George Reeves of Grayson County, Virginia at Location #13.

The map and above text both first appeared in May 2017 as part of post entitled "Early Reeves' Families in Colonial America" researched and written by Beverly for the blog Reeves, Reaves, and More Rives she co-authors and is included here with her permission.

Person Pages have been created within TRP for the following descendants of this individual. Please see footnote [F1] below.

[F1]   Family pages within TRP often may not document all of the known descendants of an individual.
For example, Person Pages are not generally created for those who died in childhood.
Please review the individual person pages to see if further offspring are listed there.

If complete branches of this tree are missing, you should first contribute person pages for the missing individuals and then via your Mentor Team talk page ask for this page to be updated.
