Narrative

Very little is known of the life of Edwin R. Ferrell. From census records, he was a merchant in Halifax and didn't marry until around age 39 or 40. The biography of his brother Peter published in 1888 in Virginia and Virginians states that Edwin served in the Civil War but no record can be found of any service. The biography may have confused the information and actually be referring to another brother, James O. Ferrell.
