Reading (Parish of St Mary), Berkshire
Location
St Mary, Reading is an Ancient Parish serving that part of
Reading which lies to the west of the River Kennet. All three of Reading's parish churches are described in detail on
pages 367-378 of A History of the County of Berkshire: Volume 3.
Parish Church
The Minster (CofE) Church is St Mary, Reading, which has been extensively extended and restored over the centuries, can be seen
here on Google Street View.
Parish Registers
"A History of the County of Berkshire: Volume 3" (pub 1923) notes that the registers before 1812 are as follows
(i) all entries 1538 to 1653;
(ii) 1653 to 1736;
(iii) baptisms and burials 1737 to 1804, marriages 1737 to 1754;
(iv) marriages 1754 to 1774;
(v) marriages 1775 to 1788;
(vi) marriages 1788 to 1805;
(vii) marriages 1805 to 1812;
(viii) baptisms and burials 1804 to 1812

Adjacent (Pre 1832) Parishes
To the east of St Mary lie the parishes of
St Lawrence, Reading and
St Giles, Reading. To the south is
Burghfield and
Tilehurst is to the west. The northern boundary is marked by the River Thames, with
Mapledurham, Oxfordshire and
Caversham, Oxfordshire on the opposite bank.
