Location and Adjacent Counties
Located in the north east of England, historic Yorkshire was bounded to the east by the North Sea, to the south by Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. To the west was Lancashire and to the north were Westmorland and Durham.For administrative purposes Yorkshire was sub-divided into three Ridings, West Riding of Yorkshire (Chapman code WRY), North Riding of Yorkshire (NRY) and East Riding of Yorkshire (ERY).
