Location

Stoke by Clare is an ancient parish located in the very south of the county of Suffolk and with the River Stour forming much of its southern boundary, it borders Essex. As it's name implies it is a neighbour of the Suffolk Parish of Clare

Stoke by Clare is approximately thirty miles west of the county town of Ipswich with Colchester, Essex some twenty-five miles to the south east. Sudbury is approximately twelve miles to the east, on the road to Ipswich. Haverhill, which straddles the Essex/ Suffolk border lies about five miles to the west.

Parish Church

The Parish (CofE) Church is St John the Baptist, Stoke by Clare, sits within the grounds of Stoke College, a private independent school. It is barely visible on Google Street View from the surrounding public roads. See also http://www.suffolkchurches.co.uk/stokec.htm

To the east of Stoke by Clare lies Clare with Ashen, Essex to the south east. The primary part of Birdbrook, Essex is to the south. To the south west is primary part Wixoe, which has two detached parts, the larger being fully surrounded by Stoke by Clare and the smaller along the boundary between Stoke by Clare and Birdbrook, Essex.
