West Bromwich (Christ Church), Staffordshire
Location
West Bromwich is an ancient parish located in the south of the county of Staffordshire. Now a large market town, it grew during the industrial revolution from a rural village due to the local availability of both ironstone and coal.West Bromwich is approximately six miles north west of Birmingham and Dudley in Worcestershire is about four miles to the west. The cathedral city of Lichfield is approximately 16 miles to the north north east and historic county town of Stafford is about twenty-five miles to the north.
The original ancient parish in West Bromwich was All Saints from which a number of Ecclesiastical Parishes where created over time, including Christ Church which was created in 1827/1837 (sources vary).
Parish Church
According to GenUKI, the Parish (CofE) Church of Christ Church, West Bromwich was destroyed by fire in October 1979. It stood on the High Street, with the vicarage to the rear on Bratt Street. Its former location can be found here on the National Library of Scotland's Map CollectionThe site was subsequently redeveloped and is now the location of the local Jobcentre Plus, with the modern building named Christchurch House.
