Christian County, KY
History
Christian county is named for Colonel William Christian, a native of Augusta County, Virginia, and a veteran of the Revolutionary War. He settled near Louisville, Kentucky in 1785, and was killed by Native Americans in southern Indiana in 1786.The act creating Christian County was passed in 1796 and took effect on March 1, 1797. That act provided "that the Justices to be named in the commission of the peace for said county" should meet at the house of Brewer Reeves and organize for business. On March 21, three weeks after the act became effective, they met, Brewer Reeves, Jacob Barnett, Moses Shelby, Hugh Knox and Jonathan Logan constituting the court and began to transact the business of the new county.
Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy, was born in Christian County.
