History

Gallatin County was formed on December 14, 1798 from parts of Franklin and Shelby counties. It was the 31st Kentucky county to be established. The county was named after Albert Gallatin a Swiss native, who became a financier,
prominent American Statesman and served as Secretary of the Treasury of President Thomas Jefferson.

Gallatin County is bordered by Boone, Grant, Owen, and Carroll counties, in addition to Indiana county Switzerland on the north.
