Narrative

Mary, the daughter of William MARSH and Mary (nee mnu) was baptised at the Parish Church of St Peter, Bishops Waltham, Hampshire on 22 April 1804.

On 25 January 1831 she married Mark Reeves, the son of Edmond (sic) Reeves, again at Bishops Waltham.

By the time of the 1851 census, Mary has been widowed and she is found working as the cook in the household of Janet Hoyes (no known relationship) in the village of Bitterne in the parish of South Stoneham. Her age is shown as 47.

On the 1871 census, Mary residing at the Sanatorium in Holdenhurst, Hampshire. Her relationship to the head is not given, but unlike subsequent entries she is not shown as a Patient and her occupation is again Cook. She is now aged 67.

At the time of the 1881 census, Mary is residing in the household of Edward Wyatt and his wife Hester (nee Reeves) along with their six children in Durley, Hampshire. Her relationship to the head of household is given as Aunt and her age is given as 76. It is this relationship which has been the key to determining who this Mary Reeves is. Hester Wyatt nee Reeves was the daughter of George Reeves and Hester Pafford. George Reeves was the younger brother of Mark Reeves, Mary's late husband.

Mary has not been identified on the 1891 census. It is probable that her death is registered in Droxford Registration District in 1q 1882 as aged 75.
