Beaufort Co., NC
History
Beaufort is one of the early precincts of North Carolina, a part of Old Bath County that was originally formed in 1696. The precinct/county became known as Pamptecough Precinct by 1705, and by the name Beaufort in 1712. In 1760, the western portion of Beaufort was cut off to establish Pitt County.
