By 1820 Jesse Phipps was married and listed as a head of household in the census of that year in Ashe County. Again in the 1830 census, Jesse was recorded in Ashe County, North Carolina.

Family information indicates that Jesse Phipps moved west circa 1829-1830. Due to Cholera outbreak they stopped at Kentucky for 3 months and then continued to Bloomington, Indiana. He made the move along with his brothers William and Isaiah.

There were three Phipps children listed in the household of Jesse Phipps in the 1850 census of Owen County, Indiana. They were Rachel Phipps, born 1837, John W. Phipps born 1839 and Robert Phipps, born 1843. None of these children are recorded in the probate documents of Jesse Phipps 1865 estate in Putnam County, Missouri so they were presumably grandchildren.
