Richard Columbus Reaves married Almenia Davis Henderson in Tallapoosa County, Alabama on 25 December 1879. Per the 1880 US Federal Census, they lived in the New Harmony community of Chambers County, Alabama. The 1900 US Federal Census shows the family in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, with Richard Columbus being a farmer. By 1920, he was a miller in the corn mill industry. His wife, Almenia, died in 1936. The 1940 US Federal Census shows Richard, at 83 years old, still working at his grist mill, living with his son, John.

Richard, along with his wife, is buried in Camp Hill Cemetery, Camp Hill, Alabama.
