F. C. Reeve, Hopkinton Business Man, Is Dead
HOPKINTON - F. C. Reeve, 66, former mayor and retired banker, died here Sunday. In years of service, he was the oldest business man in Hopkinton. Born at Sheffield, Ohio, April 4, 1868, he was the son of Isaac and Emerancy Reeve. The family came to Iowa in 1872. Mr. Reeve attended the public school here and Lenox college academy. In 1895 he was married to Mary Ella Tibbits and to them was born one child, Zeda Elliot, now Mrs. F. Ford Millikan of Brooklyn, N. Y.
During his school years Mr. Reeve helped his father operate a dray line here, and in 1887 became assistant postmaster. From 1891 to 1901 he operated the Reeve dray line and then became bookkeeper in the Hopkinton State bank. After one year he came cashier and acted in that capacity until the closing of the bank in 1929.
Mr. Reeve, an active member of the Methodist church, for many years was superintendent of the church school and was church steward. He was a member of the Masonic lodge, holding the office of treasurer for many years. At the time of his death he was secretary of the lodge and also worthy patron of the Eastern Star. Mr. Reeve has been a member of the school board several times and was secretary to the board for twenty years. He was mayor six years. Since the closing of the bank, Mr. Reeve had maintained an insurance office.
Funeral services were held Tuesday with the Rev. A. B. Soule in charge, assisted by the Rev. R. V. Porter.
