Although some records list his second name as "Duzen" rather than "Duzer," he signed his name "Isaac Van Duzer Reeve" on a letter to the Adjutant General in 1868.

DEATH of GEN. REEVE.
A Hero of Several Wars Who Has Seen Over Thirty Years of Service.
NEW YORK, Jan 2. - Brig. Gen. Isaac Van Dusen Reeve died suddenly last night at the home of his son-in-law, William T. Schley, at 26 East Sixty-seventh street. Gen. Reeve was born in Butternut, Otsego county, N. Y., July 29, 1813. He was graduated at the United States Military Academy at West Point un 1835. He served through the war with Mexico. In 1846 he received the rank of Captain and for gallant and meritorious service at Conteas and Cherabusco received the brevet of Major. In May, 1861, he received the rank of Maor and in the same month was made a prisoner of war in Texas by Gen. David R. Twiggs, not being exchanged unto August, 1862. He was chief mustering and disbursing officer in 1862 and the same year received the full rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 1864 he was assigned to the command of the draft rendezvous in Pittsburg. He became Colonel of the 13th Infantry in October, 1864. A year later, for gallant service during the rebellion, he received the brevet of Brigadier General. From 1865 to 1868 he was in service on the frontier and in charge of the district of the Upper Missouri and in 1869 was on the Retiring Board at St. Louis. He then came East and until the time of his retirement was Superintendent General of the recruiting service in New York City. At his own request, in January , 1871, he was retired, after having seen over 30 years of service.
